Mmm! Feedback on open-source project!

Oleg Kurnosov

We love to receive feedback on the flatsourcing web-site and also on the small open-source projects available publicly in our fs github account. Here was the feedback that have received recently through one of the social networks:

Oleg,

I’ve checked your website (as I do once in a while) - nice interface for exams project.
And just a minor suggestion - it might be better to write ‘Ruby on Rails’
instead of ‘RubyonRails’ on your site - looks like 37signals do that, and they should know. Also you have XHTML as your specialty before RoR - not good…

Cheers,

Michael

Open ID with Basecamp Rocks

Chris Schultz

If you’re someone who manages a lot of Basecamp accounts and has a hard time remembering passwords, this post is for you.

basecampopenidThere are a lot of authentication systems emerging, Facebook, Twitter, and Google all allow apps to let users login using their credentials.  Open ID is an open authentication system that a variety of providers operate.  It’s a godsend if you “can’t remember your passwords? tired of filling out registration forms?”

I have a lot (12, precisely) of Basecamp accounts.  We run it for Flatsourcing, and I’m pulled into a lot of client’s accounts.  I used to have to remember the URL, username, & password for each one.  That’s 36 things to remember, and countless combination of things.

Now I just remember a single URL and password with OpenID.  It’s awesome.

openidloginHere’s what you need to do:

  • Create an Open ID.  I use myOpenID.  There are a lot of providers.
  • Log into Basecamp and click “my info” in the upper right.
  • In the area for your username & password, click “Use OpenID” and enter yours
  • When you land on the login screen, click “Login using an OpenID instead” and enter yours
  • You’ll be taken to your Open ID provider to enter your password and then voilà, you’re in
  • HUGE BONUS - Basecamp has an “Open Bar” that is a drop down of all your Basecamp accounts (actually all your 37 Signal product accounts).  These are all now connected and easy to switch back and forth between.  This feature alone makes switching to OpenID for authentication well worth it.  That and you have 36 memory slots freed up.

Enjoy!

Perfect test task

Oleg Kurnosov

Hi All,

Many times a week we showcase your processes and skills to existing and potential clients.

One of the most typical showcase is the test asset that we do for Free to potential clients.

We dream of such info usually when we expect details on test asset:

* DB schema to explain more what the objects in system are

* Sitemap/sketches explaining what the resulting pages should look like?

* Overall logic of what’s beeing looked for

* Accesses needed (prefferably slicehost.com as hosting, github.com for version-control system and ofcourse RubyOnRails :) )

Usually test assets rock when they’re not 8-16 work-hours long BTW and not too urgent :)

How to get a visa to UK

Oleg Kurnosov

Hi guys,

Just wanted to post an advice: when you travel to UK, do it the corporate way. Yes, the world is flat, however corporate stuff helps flatten it even smoother. No matter who you are, where you have traveled, what your intension are - do apply a visa using professional services of a company who specialize in this.

E.g. when applied for regular tourist visa to get to FOWA conference in UK with all my experience and even US visa in international passport here is the kind of reply I got. Didn’t take it personally, it’s probably quite a few tourist visa applications that embassy specialist have been processing at that time. That is why, no matter how world is flat, don’t forget to travel professionally.
